Privacy Policy

This policy explains what data Ebi Otaku collects when you visit the site, what we use it for, and the choices you have. Last updated: 2026-05-12.

What we collect

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand which pages and features visitors find useful. GA4 sets first-party cookies and records anonymised events such as page views, time on page, and button clicks (e.g. the 'I keep this' vote and the affiliate Buy link). We do not collect names, email addresses, or any personally identifying information through the site.

We also set a single first-party cookie called 'ebi_votes' that records which species and equipment you have voted for, so the site can prevent duplicate votes from the same browser. This cookie contains a list of slugs only — no personal information.

Third-party services

Pages on Ebi Otaku may include affiliate links to Amazon. When you click such a link and complete a purchase on Amazon, Amazon may share a transaction identifier with us so they can pay the affiliate commission. We never see your name, address, or payment details. Equipment images from Amazon (m.media-amazon.com) are loaded directly from Amazon's CDN.

Site content (species data, equipment, glossary, FAQ, journal) is stored in Sanity. Sanity may log standard request metadata (IP, user agent) for abuse prevention. Hosting is provided by Cloudflare, which similarly logs request metadata for security purposes.

How long we keep the data

GA4 retains anonymised event data for up to 14 months. The 'ebi_votes' cookie expires after 365 days. We do not store any of this data on our own database.

Your choices

You can block analytics cookies by using your browser's privacy / Do Not Track settings, an extension such as uBlock Origin, or by clearing your cookies for ebiotaku.com. None of the site's functionality requires GA4 — disabling it does not affect your reading experience.

If you live in the European Economic Area, the UK, or another region with similar privacy laws (GDPR, UK GDPR), you have the right to request access, rectification, or deletion of any data we hold about you. Contact us via the address below.
